Wow, I’m telling you… what an amazing week we all had at the Green Valley Resort! How relaxing it was to sit poolside for a quiet moment between classes and gather up some of that beautiful sunshine amidst the palms and gardens. And there’s something exciting about having a retreat in such a serene setting while having the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas be only minutes away! This venue really is outstanding — everyone loved it.

Our wonderful instructors outdid themselves with spectacular classes. Thanks to all of you for making the attendees’ wishes come true and for perpetuating such marvelously creative ideas! Your kindness and patience really allow people of all levels of artistic experience to come to Art & Soul and try something new. You rock!

And for everyone who attended — newbies and long-time followers alike — thank you so much for wanting to take some soulful time for yourselves, push your creative limits, be adventurous, as well as meet with old friends and make new ones too. Whether you’ve come to Art & Soul for the first time, or have been for years — it definitely makes a palpable impact in your life. Something you can feel in the moment, but also take home with you. Thank you all for taking this journey with us!

Well lookie here… I just love to see a room full of students concentrating diligently on what they’re doing. You know when the room goes silent, the creative wheels are turning! Sheer bliss.

Hmmmmmm. Decisions, decisions. Half the fun in these creative classes is seeing how everyone puts their own twist on the techniques being taught. Personalities really shine through in the artwork made here!

And all the wonderful classes that Art & Soul has to offer, wow! Even though it’s almost a week-long retreat — I know for the students it’s sometimes hard to choose which ones to take. Many take workshops based on techniques they’d like to enhance. Others make their choices based on going totally outside their comfort zone.

But no matter which direction they go, I’ve heard time and time again how much they loved what they did! Just look at the Milagros in this photo. How cool are they!

And how about those spacious classrooms? Who doesn’t love room to spread out and create! Everyone had plenty of room, not only for all their “stuff” on the table, but also for the luggage, carts and bins they use to bring it all to class. Makes everything so much nicer when you have enough space to concentrate on the task at hand — setting your creativity freeeee!

So, once again — thanks to the Green Valley Resort, and to the teachers, and to the attendees, and the Vendor Night vendors and shoppers, and to Marie Kennedy and Liz Krening for keeping me on my toes in the office.

Love and hugs,
Glenny xoxo

Vegas is a BLAST! This is definitely NOT Portland or Hampton,“honey, I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore.” Oops wrong movie – our theme is Wonderland.  And this is certainly the place for wonderment. Sensory overload for sure, but it adds to the overall creativity of the event.

Our first Tea was a smashing success thanks to the hard work of Zhulia! Ms. Z made wonderland packets that included all the necessary components to make a bracelet or a pendant for each attendee. The tables were beautifully set with tea pots and it was a nice relaxing time to get acquainted. THEN we were all blown away when our gals walked the runway in their pocket skirts!

Our first place winners:

Carolyn Myers – “The Most Wonderlandiful

Jodi Reeb Myers  – “Most Likely to be Seen on a Paris Runway”

Iris Gonyea – “Most Functional”

Zhulia Abrok – “Best in Show”

The Pocket Skirt girls!!  Ms. Z with full skirt

Our own Ms. Z  — before she let her skirt down!!

If you haven’t heard, we’re celebrating the new year with an Art & Soul sale. Each week, for the next few months, we will feature an instructor and the classes they will be teaching at upcoming events. During that week only, if you sign up for one of their classes you will receive a 20% discount on the total cost of the class. This is a great opportunity to try a new instructor, delve into a technique that might appeal to you, or just venture out of that “comfortable art” box. Register for the class online, as usual, and we will credit your account, accordingly. This week our featured instructor is Stephanie Rubiano. She’s teaching three classes in Vegas, all of which look very exciting, can’t wait.

Deadline for registration is Friday, January 1st. Available for new class registration only. Not acceptable to transfer from previously registered class in order to receive discount.

Perching Pixies

Stephanie Rubiano

Stephanie is a mixed-media artist who creates dimensional works within shadow boxes, using a variety of uncommon objects. Her love of nature and fascination with Victorian photography is apparent through her combination of antique photographs and real butterfly or moth wings. Bits of text illustrate her irreverence for straight-laced Victorian society and lend a whimsical air to her pieces. Stephanie’s inner science geek is assuaged by her writing the scientific name of each butterfly or moth specimen on the back of the box next to her signature.

Stephanie teaches sold-out workshops at national art retreats and has had work in past mediums shown in galleries and boutiques across the United States.  She is an emerging artist on the art festival scene. In October of 2008 she participated in her first nationally-ranked art festival, the Bayou City Art Festival in Houston, TX and placed 2ndoverall out of 300 national artists. Her work has graced the covers of magazines and books, as well as been the subject of articles and how-to projects.

Butterfly Boxes

Magnetic Personality

Wow! Having the Wonderland theme for 2010 is really going to be a hoot. Jill Haglund of Tweety Jill has an entire Alice product line and it is amazing.  Here are some samples of the collage sheets.  Can’t you just see using these in our artwork for the event??!!
