Wow! The first days of a retreat are oh so exciting and this year’s Virginia Retreat is no exception. Workshop attendees hustling through the hotels and Convention Center with GIGANTIC rolling bags and satchels in tow…  Teachers excitedly claiming their class supplies from the “secret room”…  And, WHOA! Wait a minute! What have we here? Oh my goodness! Take a look at this gorgeous store setup by Judy Gula from Artistic Artifacts! Oh, I know some people will get carried away in here! Thanks, Judy!

And speaking of shopping, don’t forget — Vendor Night for Hampton is tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th from 6-9pm. It’s open to everyone and free for all Virginia attendees (only $10 for the general public – and totally worth it!). Tons of mixed media supplies, ephemera, antique bits and bobs, embellishments of all kinds, beads, fabric and of course original art and jewelry from your favorite artists and instructors! Vendor Night will take place in the Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1700 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA 23666.

See you there!

We’ve got some exciting news for our Hampton, Virginia Art & Soul Retreat attendees!

You’ve asked for it… and now you’ve got it! New at this upcoming retreat (can you believe it’s basically a week away?) we will have a Hospitality Room available for all attendees! So what does that mean?

• We’ll have tables to display your fabulously creative class projects!

• Snacks and beverages will be available (because art makes you hungry and thirsty!)

• You’ll have the chance to meetup with old acquaintances and make new ones

• And plenty of seating to sit and chat away with like-minded peeps!

Find out more when you stop in to register! Can’t wait to see you all (getting excited!)….

How exciting! It’s that time of year again. Packets for the Hampton, Virginia Art & Soul retreat have gone out and many of you will be receiving a little surprise inside! But shhhhh… don’t tell anyone what it is, let’s keep it a secret from the Portland attendees!

Me and my trusty helper (my, how she’s grown!) had tons of fun preparing all your goodies for the Virginia retreat!

For those of you who’ll be getting the “alterable item” — have fun with it! This year’s theme is Into The Garden and that can dictate the direction you go with your creativity — or maybe you want to think outside the garden! Whatever you create, I know it will be spectacular. You are all so very creative. We love seeing the end results! And those results won’t be wasted, because we have some fabulous prizes this year. Read on..

For our contest, we’re going to have 4 categories:
• Most Original Design
• Most Hilarious
• Most Fitting of Theme, and
• Most Likely to Be Worn While Gardening

And… the winner of each category will receive a FREE one-day class for  Portland 2011 or Hampton 2012! So get into the garden, and get your hands dirty! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

If you’ve ever attended one of the Art & Soul Retreats — or have talked to someone who has — you know what a life-changing event it can be. Now, we’re not trying to be conceited here — LOL! — it’s just the response we get year after year! People who have the courage to go outside their comfort zone. Those who love to be creative, but maybe have never tried it in a mixed media atmosphere. There are the ones who have dabbled and want to dabble more. And then there are those who love the camaraderie of others who are just as enthusiastic (a.k.a. a little nutty) about being creative as they are.

Art & Soul is a place where you are welcomed by all and it’s a safe haven to let go, be yourself, and explore something new. We’d love to hear about your favorite Art & Soul experience! So leave us a comment… and thanks for sharing!
