Wow! My first visit to the Craft & Hobby Association Trade Show was quite an adventure! It is amazing to see how much the genre of Mixed Media has made its way into the craft industry over the past several years. Which is one of the reasons I wanted to attend the show — to find lots of goodies for all you wonderful students!

While at the show, you cannot help but run into an Art & Soul Workshop Instructor… or two… or three… or more! One of our longtime Jewelry Artists — Susan Lenart Kazmer — was there with her very own booth! It was totally abuzz with artists and shopowners who have followed the progress of Susan’s company — Objects And Elements — as well as those who couldn’t wait to find out about her amazing products. She has absolutely gorgeous pendants, findings, kits, resin, books, dvds, and so much more. Everything a mixed media jewelry artist could possibly want.

And here is Susan with Jen Cushman — who will be teaching at Art & Soul for the first time this year along with Barbe Saint John. Both are members of Susan’s Jewelry Design Team. Jen is the author of a new book about Ice Resin (just out at this show!) — one of the many fabulous products from Objects And Elements. And to top that off, it was published under their own new publishing division! Wow!

The rest of the show was abundance of exhibitors including craft manufacturers (rubber stamps, ink, papers, tools), publishing companies (all of your favorite books from your favorite mixed media artists – and TONS of new ones!), art companies (like fine art papers, art supplies, paints and such), sewing, fabric, beads, baubles, ephemera, embellishments and a whole section for new exhibitors (from what I understand — there’s plenty of newbies every year!). In addition there were a plethora of workshops, contests, make-and-takes, demonstrations, and even some “rallys” around a huge amount of new products and accessories. Whew! It’s enough to make your head spin. So many amazing supplies — so little time.

All-in-all, CHA was a total blast. I learned a lot and know much more about the craft industry as it pertains to Mixed Media and how relationships with these groups can benefit Art & Soul!
