And while we’re on the subject of making stuff, a big shout-out to former Chesapeake resident Sue Perna, who won the “Most Likely to Be Seen on a Paris Runway” division at this summer’s Art & Soul retreat and workshops at the Hampton Coliseum. Art & Soul retreats are held in only a few cities annually   and attract scores of artists who are eager to learn new mixed-media techniques and experience one-of-a-kind shopping. The theme for the 2010 opening night tea party/runway show was Alice in Wonderland, and Perna delivered the goods in her outfit (she made the skirt and hat). For her creativity, Perna, who now lives in Wakefield, was awarded a free class for next year’s Art & Soul.
